Bedrest sucks!

That's right bedrest is the pitts!

On May 8, 2009 I was scheduled to have a pilonidal cyst removed out of my butt crack. I know, your thinking gross. But for me I'm thinking just how fucking painful it is . I was at the point where I didn't want to go the movies because half way through I would be so uncomfortable that I was half tempted to get up and leave. Instead I spent the second half moving every few minutes to try and regain comfort to no avail. Car rides over two hours required multiple stops so I could get up and walk and take the pressure of my tailbone.

May 8 came and I went in for surgery. The nurse blew my first IV not making me overly happy. I'm not a fan of IV's the thought of a fish line in my hand kind of bothers me. My surgeon, Dr. Z came in to see me in the pacu before I was wheeled into the operating room. I don't remember anything until I woke up in the recovery area of the pacu. Dr. Z was in the recovery room when I woke up from the sedation. He told me that I didn't have just one cyst but instead two were removed. He also told that what we discussed about the small incision on the inside of my butt cheek wasn't what he acutally had to do to remove them. I ended up with three incisions and one being 4 inches in length.

I'll sum it up. The recovery is HELL! Painful? Most definately Yes! I orginally had the weekend + monday after my surgery off from work. I went back to work for a half day on Tuesday and drove home in tears because I was in so much pain. Wednesday was the same thing only this time I thought I could vomit because the vicoden and ibprophen they had me on wasn't touching the pain. I ended up back at Dr.Z's office in tears. He immediately wrote me a note to be on a limited bed rest until May 21. I was ordered to the couch and bed staying off my butt/back as much as possible and being semi comfortable. The only way for me to be comfortable was to have constant hot/cold packs on my incision area. Dr. Z was wonderful he called me on Friday to see how I was doing.

Wednesday May 21 comes and I go to have my stitches out. Dr. Z looks and I'm ribbed a stitch out of the top incision so it looks like it has not healed correctly. Once he looked closer my body has been rejecting the stitches and started to grow away from them and then in one area right up and over them. Getting my stitches out was a BITCH! I've never been in so much pain. I left with a huge hole in my butt crack that we are to keep an eye on to make sure there is no infection. I left the hospital with tears running down my face because it hurt so bad.

May 22: Back to work. I still can't sit comfortably so instead I stood at my desk all day. Left an hour early.

Which brings us to Today. Back to see Dr.Z because Doc changed my dressing this morning only to have brown/dark yellow drainage a sure sign of infection coming from my open wound. My Boss sent me home. Dr. Z told me to remain home from work laying low. Dr.Z is concerned that he will need to split my incision and wick it to drain the infection. I'm not looking forward to anything like this taking place. I just want to be healed and back to work.

I'm SICK of being sick!

4 LETTER WORD

WORK.

This four letter word has taken over my life. TAKEN. Okay, perhaps willingly. Taken just the same. Since last Monday I have worked seven straight days. 73 1/2 hours. 40 hours for my credit union job. The other 33 1/2 hours for the hospital in/out registration patient area.

The willingness of giving my time to both of these places is so nice. Not many people can actually say they love their job(s). I CAN. I honestly love them. I love the people that I work with minus 1 one. That particular co-irker could be devoted to an entire entry. There is something about the both jobs that keeps me getting up and going to these places each day. The CU I love the members--they are absolutely fantastic. The patients at the hospital are wonderful. My heart aches for most of the people I see but helping them is what makes me happy.

SLEEP.

Or the lack of is the most frustrating of all. I get home and it seems like it is time to get up and go again. I fell asleep on the couch this afternoon while eating my lunch. Doc told me that I was so tired that I was snoring. The sad part I had to get up to shower to go back into work. ha!

MISS.

There are some things that I miss terribly when I work all kinds of hours. I miss spending time with Doc and Wallace is limited but greatly adored. I miss dinner time. I miss sleeping in and cuddling my boys. I miss bath time at night. And I miss doing what I want.

WHY?

Why am I working all the CRAZY hours? Well, we are saving up for the downpayment on our condo, paying off my car and considering purchasing new furniture. It all takes money. Plus, I took the job at the hospital for the experience and placement on my resume. My husband is a nurse at an administrative level. We could move any where for him to get a "better" job. Which is great for him--he deserves it. I on the other hand need the experience of the hospital life so I too can get a J-O-B.

Oh well---It's one of those things that is not going going to go away for a very long time. I will need to WORK to survive. And these days it is all about survival.

YESTERDAY SUCKED.

It is the only way that I can sum it up. I have never in my life felt as miserable as I did yesterday.

My day started with me going for what I thought would be a simple doctors visit and prescription for an antibiotic to kick this cold/flu shit I've got going on. Every exam room was full. Apparently everyone under the sun is experiencing the "bug" like symptoms. I wasn't the only one today who felt like talking was going to cause them to loose a vocal cord. Or that peeing made you feel like your colon and all the other goodies would suddenly be in the bottom of your toilet bowl. I was feverish and feeling yucking.

For FOUR days! one, two three, FOUR days. I was at the end of my rope when I got there. They wanted to get some blood for a CBC with differential. I convinced them to not only take a purple tube but also a tiger tube just in case they needed to run more tests that way I wouldn't need to get picked too many times. They looked at my throat. She told me that my tonsils were HUGE. She did a throat culture. Examined my belly. The CBC came back normal other than my bacterial fighters were evaluated which was a little concerning. Also my strep culture was also negative. Good that I don't have but shitty because I wish I could get the medication that would be make it start to feel better. She didn't like that I had pain in the right side of my abdomen so she wanted me to get a CT scan.

Off to the Emergency room. Once there I was forced into a johnny. I hate those gowns. I refused to take off my pants and socks. They had to give me an IV and of course draw more blood. She stuck me in the same spot as the last girl that drew my blood at the doctors office less than an hour ago. I was then wheeled down to X-Ray, where I had the scan to see if my appendix was enlarged. The girl flushed my IV and started injecting me with radation. I have to say it was the coolest sensation in the world. I got all warm and suddenly felt like I was peeing my pants but the warmness felt awesome seems how I've been freezing for 4 days now. It only lasted seconds but still those seconds were GREAT! The scan took all of ten minutes. Once back in ED Room 7 then brought in IV fluids and started pumping me full of them. It took about an hour to get the results back from radiology. No surgery yet. I just love the--- YET! It's not my appendix. They found that I have a 4cm ovarian cyst and fluid around my right ovary. Which lead them to believe that I had a larger cyst that had burst. My nurse Emily came in and stopped my IV drip and took out my IV because I was able to go home. Yay! They put me on some antibiotics and pain medication. The end all result I have the sinus/GI bug plus the cyst going on. I'm just to do what I can do without exhausting myself. Which meant not working today (Wednesday) either.

Wallace has enjoyed mommy being home with him. It meant that he didn't need to go to his den for the last 5 days. However, I'm looking forward to going back to work tomorrow. I'm sick of using my 30-3=27 CTO days for sick days. I'm saving those for a baby!

15.5 HOURS.

I worked 15.5 hours today because my two jobs. I'm freaking crazy. Seriously. 12 maybe but 15 I'm not beyond tired. Border line way overtired. I'm going to have some serious baggage under my eyes tomorrow morning.

It wasn't a slow day for me today. I was out straight at the credit union today. I didn't get a chance to run for lunch under 15 past 1. I usually eat between 11:50 and 12:10. Needless to say I was BEYOND starving. Once I finished up at the credit union I clocked in upstairs in registration.

The hospital was a hopping place this evening. We ended up on a full lock down at 7pm. Apparently someone threatened to steal a newborn. No ladies-as much as I want a baby-It was not me. It was a complete ZOO. The emergency was out of control, the phones were out straight and my patience ended up shot by the end of my shift.

One great thing happened tonight. Doc just surprised me with a new ring tone for my Sparkly new Blackberry which I have yet to really post about. I will tomorrow when I am far less tired and have a partial brain. My new ring tone is from the Pixar movie Wall-e.

Goodnight. Off to bed with my favorite snugglable babies. Doc and Wally. I love you boys!

a days work

Today was payday at work which meant everyone came in to get their checks cashed, open an account or take a loan out for their upcoming vacation. People were so impatient and nasty because of the days weather. Rain. This girl came in with her boyfriend to take out their paychecks to pay for the next two weeks worth of bills. They always end up in a deep conversation about who has what bill to pay. wasting my time. wasting the time of the person in the line behind them. I asked them if they had everything together so we could move on with their transaction when she decided to SHH me. Shh me. Shh me. I couldn't believe it. My smile disappeared off my face and my mood went from helpful to get the fuck out of my office. I have been home for three hours now and I still can't believe that I got shhed. damnit. I will end this night with shear genius on bravo.
